Has anyone ever heard of spell check?

Many reasons!

1. Our language has rules, but we actually have a lot of words that irregular spellings or don't follow the rules, or their root words come from another language where we've allowed that spelling through to the way we write it. This is VERY confusing for all children, especially those who make this their 2nd language.

2. People these days don't put enough emphasis into their learning. Looking at number one, you need to really study to learn all the "weird" word spellings we have. It just doesn't some easily.

3. Laziness -- We are at a time where people use slang to be quicker or to just be lazy. And you would think that these people would use spell check when they are doing some kind of important paper, but they don't.

In the end, I really wish people would take the time to learn to spell correctly. It makes people look ignorant, especially when you're an adult and you're still spelling basic words incorrectly. It's one of my pet peeves as a teacher when I see it out on billboard sign for businesses or formal writing people are doing.

"cuz thay dont caire" sounds about right. It makes me wonder, when they take over the running of the world, if I'll get the right meds or Social Security or whatever. Thank you for pointing out that some people still care and can actually spell!

I abbreviate like "ppl" and such in conversations with people I know really well, but try not to misspell things.

I think it depends on how people learned at an early age. The whole language approach killed good spelling. People work at a fast pace. However, these days this is no excuse. In general, people are just lazy!

i agree with you. and it's not that difficult since the check spelling link is right above the response box! i especially hate it when they can't correctly type even the most simplest of words, like "wurd". that's one of my biggest pet peeves!

Everyone has different strengths and weaknesses. Maybe spellling is easy for you, but I am sure you may be lacking in other areas, so have some sympathy for those who may not be as fortunate as you.

Some of it is:
They never learned the correct way
Ignorance
Carelessness-theyoverlook errors
They don't use the SpellCheck function (or don't know how)
They type too fast
Laziness in checking for errors
They don't proofread their work
