I am a proud republican. I stand by my president, not because he is also a republican, but because I have pride in my country and my presidents ability. When people voted in early november, I believe the voted against the president rather then for the candidates themselves. Why?

Well- If you haven't heard. Democrats are calling for a draft. So essentially, the promises they made prior to the election, well they were FALSE. I find it hilarious...Democrats- so typical. They tell AMERICANS i CAN get your troops out of IRAQ. TRUST ME. AND THEN NOW WE FIND OUT THEY ARE ATTEMPTING TO START A NEW DRAFT. wow.

ONE QUESTION FOR THE DEMOCRATS:

"ARE YOU HAPPY YOU VOTED AGAINST PRESIDENT BUSH NOW? ARE YOU CONTENT THAT YOU VOTED FOR PEOPLE YOU DIDN'T KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT? BECAUSE NOW ALL THE NEWLY-ELECTED DEMOCRATS ARE LAUGHING IN YOUR FACE. THEY WON. THERE WILL BE A DRAFT."

=(

God help us all if mama Clinton wins the next election.

I am totally against all of these answers. Although, I respect your opinions. Good luck if any of you get sent over there. Hopefully that sort of "wake-up-call" will not be what it takes to let you know the democrats are liers.

WOW. PLEASE DO NOT TELL ME TO PAY ATTENTION TO FACTS. I AM A JOURNALISM MAJOR. THE FACTS ARE WHAT I AM AFTER. Pay attention to your news people. IT was STATED BY CONGRESSMAN RENGAL FROM NY YESTERDAY-
(CBS/AP) A senior House Democrat said Sunday he will introduce legislation to reinstate the military draft, asserting that current troop levels are insufficient to sustain possible challenges against Iran, North Korea and Iraq.

PLEASE STOP POSTING IF YOU ARE MISINFORMED CHILDREN. HONESTLY.

Phil, I was in Iraq. Funny, I didn't see you there... Democrats, Republicans.... Does it REALLY matter? They're ALL over paid and underworked. And they'll all promise to kiss you when they're done too. I'm not a Republican, I'm a conservative. I believe we should "Teach" those in need how to catch fish so that they will be able to eat for a lifetime, not just hand them one so that they can eat for today. (in reference to government handouts like welfare)
I believe in holding people accountable instead of holding their hand...
I know the last Democrat to actually get us out of a war was Truman. And it was only because of people like Churchill... Incidently, he was also the last president to not have a college degree.
And if being a Democrat is so high and mighty, then why were they the ones to support the institution of slavery in this country? (Lincoln was a Republican) Guess it kind of makes sense then that so many "minorities" in this country support an organization that went to war to try and continue to oppress them... But wait, it occurs to me that welfare is still a form of slavery and opression... Duh.
Am I the only one who finds it a little more than slightly disconcerting that the head of Al Qaeda in Iraq and the "President" of Iran both commended the American people for having voted in the Democrats?

Wow, Rangel just wont give it up. But I do agree with this statement.
There's no question in my mind that this president and this administration would never have invaded Iraq -- especially on the flimsy evidence that was presented to the Congress -- if indeed we had a draft and members of Congress and the administration thought that their kids from their communities would be placed in harm's way," the New York lawmaker said.

Rangel goes on to say
"I will be introducing that bill as soon as we start the new session" of Congress in January.

Rangel first proposed legislation for the draft in January 2003 before the invasion of Iraq two months later, but it was voted down. He again failed to win support when he reintroduced the bill earlier this year.

"I don't see how anyone can support the war and not support the draft. I think to do so is hypocritical," Representative Charles Rangel

Very happy with the decision. Bush has been using a back door draft for years, and has not been putting war funding in the budget, thus misinforming the public on the actual cost, both in terms of money and resources, of the poorly-prosecuted war. Well, we are in the war now and apparently cant get out. So the Dems intend to properly prosecute the war. Whats wrong with that?

By the way, wasn't it the Republicans who were criticizing "libs" less than a month ago for wanting to "cut and run"? Now you are whining about Democrats prosecuting the war? Which way do you want it? I guess it doesn't matter, if all you really want to do is criticize the Dems no matter what they do...

I would suggest you pay more attention to facts, rather than the hype and false and deceptive claims of people like Bill O'Reilly and his ilk.

The mention of the draft was brought up more than a year ago - initially, as I recall - by republicans.

I am not a Democrat - I am however, a patriot - and the vitriol spewed by the neo-conservatives is frightening. As a student of the founding fathers, and the constitution - I would strongly suggest you do some research before repeating the vitriolic garbage spouted by neo-conservatives in the media...

I would also point out that the President in question has a long history of saying one thing, then when proven wrong, denying his prior statements... this has been a common behavior of this administration throughout its six plus year history.

"Democrats" and Congressman Rengel are NOT synonymous!! Every one knows he is a nut, and surely the Congress will reject his call for the draft to be reinstated. I am a Republican too, but I KNOW all democrats are not calling for a draft. I am amazed that as a journalism major you have yet to learn that you cannot argue from a specific to a generality. Remember that when you become a journalist!!

i'm going to agree that each and each male citizen of the country ought to have a minimum of two to 3 years of militia provider or in case you at the instant can not serve the militia, then you relatively ought to serve in yet another skill, such simply by fact the scientific container, or something like community provider. they're going to at last ought to have the draft, simply by fact this conflict on terror is equivalent to the nazis taking potential for the time of the "30s and '40s. The all-volunteer militia is working real stable desirable now, yet we are being stretched to the ingredient to breaking. that's a stable concept so some distance as i'm worried. I definitely have been there and that i could serve lower back in a heartbeat.

Ok,I'll risk the thumbs downs and agree with you.I think there were alot of people who voted the way they did just to "stick it" to Bush.I heard many of them discussing it when I was in line to vote.I voted my conscience and for the candidates that addressed the concerns that were most important to me.Unfortunately, the people in my state didn't agree with me and voted out some very good people. Now we have a senator who is known to contribute money that backs terrorist organizations and a congressman who has no experience at all and backs amnesty for illegals.I know many don't agree with what Bush is doing, but some of the decisions made just don't make any sense.

How typical. You generalize and put the opinion of one Democrat in the mouths of all of them. I'm neither a Democrat or a Republican. I find both parties extremely lacking in their supposed basic tenentants.
Your assumptions are false. No Democrat ever promised to not re-instate the draft. Personally I think it's a great idea. To many people are self centered, care only about what's in it for them and would never do a thing for this country unless forced to.

Democrats will launch a war against Iran and North Korea soon when they control the Congress in January. Thus, the draft is already being called.
