God knows whats going on in his mind... You could speculate all day long as to why Michael does what he does... I personally think he has got some weird phsycological disease and just cant manage to pull himself out...
my dumb theories of the mask
1. its cool
2. thinks air will contaminate him
3. doesnt want anyone to kiss him
4. hiding a bad lip job
5. holding his botched nose job onto his face
6. Looks like a ninja
7. etc etc etc...

this was because he has just had that last nose job and it was all screwed up, so he was hiding it.. And Yeah it freaks me out too...
