The exercise has to be targeted to the abs. Pilates is great for the 6-pack because it's so focused on the abs area. Sit-ups if performed incorrectly can actually cause you to pouch outwards.
The diet may not be necessary if you don't gain weight easily. If you need to lose weight, then go lower carb. No bread or pasta.

Abs are made in the kitchen. If you don't have a good diet then you won't get the results you want. Both are key to getting six pack abs and both take great commitment. You have to work really hard and stay commited,I cut my calories down to 1500 per day and was doing cardio for 45 minutes four days a week. The other days I was doing cardio also but no weights.Stay away from processed foods and eat 5-6 small meals per day.

I can only tell you this: your abdominal muscles are the only ones in your body that you can work every day. Other muscles need a day to recouperate, but not your abs. So do those crunches and leg lifts every day and you'll see a change in no time!

All 3 bud!! However, i've learned not to put on too much weight when you're on the ab machines because you're fat will always be there and you're muscle will build under the fat making you look, well, fatter....unless you crash diet ofcourse, which I also did....Not healthy.
But yeah, you're good with all three!

It seems as though BOTH would be important. However, if you must choose between the two, I would select exercise because then you can eat up the extra calories you eat. Good luck.

if you exercise without eatign you won;t have sufficient nutrition to maintain the exercise. If you eat without exercising you may just get fat.
The key is balance - good food, exercise, fresh air and always maintain excellent hygiene by showering immediately after every exercise session.
