Windows Update keeps telling me it has detected spyware, adware, and trojans. Then It says click here to remove..but when i click it just takes me to a website that will scan for free...but when it comes time to actually clean my system, they want you to buy the full version. Is this the latest windows marketing ploy or do i really need to shell ouy money to solve my problem??

If the message pops out frequently, and at the system tray...its adware.Especially if the message states you have the latest trojan, spyware on yur computer,it's bullshit.I got it but removed with many free antispyware apps like
SpyBot Search and Destroy
AVG Antispyware
Superanti spyware
Spyware Doctor(Detects only)
AdAware SE
Hope it helps.Good luck.

No, it is not windows update. You will have to manually remove the program by locating its entry in registry.

First You need to use one or more antispyware programs to prevent browser hijacking. Below is a list of good free antispyware programs.
1) Real time scanning antispyware programs. Choose any one.
microsoft windows defender
http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security/spyware/software/default.mspx
avg free antispyware
http://free.grisoft.com/
2) You can download and install both of the programs below. You have to manually run scan.
adaware se free Antispyware
http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/
http://www.download.com/Ad-Aware-SE-Personal-Edition/3000-8022_4-10045910.html?part=dl-ad-aware&subj=dl&tag=top5
spybot s&d
http://www.safer-networking.org/

Then use the following steps to remove the program that is causing trouble.Use a registry cleaning software like RegScrubXP to remove the entries of offending software from registry and then use a cleaning software like ccleaner to remove other files such as exes, dlls etc created by the offending program.
Free RegScrubXP registry cleaner
http://www.sofotex.com/RegScrubXP-download_L7528.html
downlod + install + run it.
When you get in the software window.
Click on user defined problems button.
It will display all entries in windows registry under different categories. So scroll down the list till you reach a category company. In this category look at the names in full key, and Main key. If you locate the name there, then check the box in front
of its entry and press the button Fix selected entries.
It should remove the entry from the registry.
After that you will need another software to remove other files created by the program on your computer. It is ccleaner, if you do not have it already; read how to use it and then download it from here.

Windows update isn't doing that you have a browser hijacker that is giving you pop up or pop under ads that direct you to a third parties website. You need to to scan your computer for spyware but you don't have to pay for the software.

Try spybot at http://www.spybot.com
or adaware at http://www.download.com/Ad-Aware-SE-Personal-Edition/3000-8022_4-10045910.html?part=dl-ad-aware&subj=dl&tag=top5
and you can also install MSoft's free spyware blocker Windows Defender at http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security/spyware/software/default.mspx

After installing each program update them and then restart your computer in safe mode (hit f8 on boot up repeatedly) and run them.

It doesn't sound like you have too much to worry about it sounds like your problem is minor.
