Given the choice between the United States of America and the European Union, which do you think has the most going for it culturally/poltically/economic... etc?

There is a view among many Europeans that Americans are less culturally sophisticated and and "gung-ho" about war, while Americans often view "old Europe" as being appeasers or arrogant.

From a personal perspective it would seem that the USA is better for finding work and keeping what you earn, but Europe is better for avoiding the kind of religious fundamentalism that is prevalent in many American States.

Well i am biased when I say that I rather live in America even with all of it's troubles. This is a beautiful country with a relitave short history but a treasured one as well. America has had it's dark periods that we wish we can sweep under the rug-- but what country doesen't have them ten fold. Mother and Father's parents were born in Italy so I have a love of sorts of that country too. But my allgience goes to the USA.

And as for Americans being war mongers remember the OLD COUNTRY and AISA nations have had thousands and thousands of years of battle and bickering and it seemed people forgot them because it happened so many years ago. We are about 230 years old -- a baby ! But it is nice to know that this young country of ours took in people from different countries and made it a super power in every sence of the word. And that the people that live in America are here because they came here from Europe. Not all but Europe was used as a comparasion.

And that the Europeans that look down on us are looking down on themselves -

I love vacationing in Europe...but don't ever plan on living there.

Also, I take exception with the asker's statement..."Europe is better for avoiding the kind of religious fundamentalism that is prevalent in many American States."

True, there is religious fundamentalism in the US, however, it's much more benign than the religious fundamentalism in Europe. As so few of Europe's muslims have assimilated into local society, there is a storm brewing on the horizon in Europe. That's not to say it can't happen in the US, but just pointing out that Europe has it's problems as well....

The European Union seems to have a brighter future.

Less debt, more world respect, less internal strife, better culture, better race relations. Not to mention superior education, and health systems.
