Recently --- I need to eat better. Usually, I eat pretty healthy with enough veggies etc... but this week I've eaten too many cookies, baklava, rice pudding, and honey cakes.

According to Wikipedia, the FIRST one to have uttered this quote was Eubie Blake in 1921. He was a jazz and ragtime composer, lyricist, and pianist and lived from 1887 to 1983.

Mickey Mantle wasn t born until 1931, so surely Blake takes the prize.

Part 1

New York Yankees star slugger Mickey Mantle came from a long line of men who died early in life. His father, grandfather and other men in the family all died before the age of 45 (Of what I can not recall.) Convinced that he wouldn't live long, Mantle drank and smoke heavily and took many risks while out partying. Mantle died of liver cancer caused by drinking at age 64 back in 1993. He often said that if he knew he was going to live as long as he did, he would have taken better care of himself. Imagine the ballplayer he would have been!!!

Part 2
I'm nearly 32 and I wish I'd been more athletic growing up. I'm not in the best shape I could be. But, rather than regretting the past, I'll take better care of myself from now on (I haven't eaten fast food in ages!)

According to Time Life's "Dr. Koop's Self-care Advisor" book, the quote is "If I'd known I was going to live this long, I'd have taken better care of myself," by James Herbert ("Eubie") Blake. He died at age 100.

Blake was a musician.

I'm 34, so I haven't damaged myself too bad. I could eat better foods.
