I think it will inevitably happen. Blacks fought for equality and woman fought for the right to vote, both won. Because America is about the right to choose.
As much fuss that goes on with it now it's only a matter of time before it's legal in every state. It will fade into main stream and people will give up fighting against it. You only need to look at America's history to see that.
So how many others believe it will happen? Even if you disagree with it do you think it will happen? If you don't think it will, why?

ebethw85, the bible and God were once used to fight against both black's and woman's rights. Besides this is not a religious battle. Remember that you live in a country that supports your right to choose your religion, even if someone else disagrees with it. I think some Christians like to pick and choose what is convenient to their religion without considering the freedom that supposedly makes America so great.

I agree with it and I think it will happen. It already has in more enlightened countries and the US will follow eventually.

I would not compare it to the civil rights movement but I agree its inevitable.

All it takes is one strong push for it to be put in society and it will eventually become the norm.

For those against gay marriage they should now pass civil union bills in all states. It should put the debate off for a generation or so but I still think its inevitable.

I think though this is apart of a bigger question. Dose America as a society legislate morality? If the answer is no then things like Gay marriage, Abortion, polygamy, and incest are not even up for debate.

if the answer is yes then the debate turns to how much.

I agree with you gypsy - It is a pattern with American society that we tend to look back at our prejudices in disgust. Especially when it comes down to something that is not about hurting people mentally or physically. I also think that the idea of glbt communities paying taxes so that everyone else can get married and be afforded the rights that go along with it will be a huge part in turning the nation into one that is fairer to it's people.

I hope it will happen, but I think it will be a long time before the entire USA will adopt the idea that love is love no matter who its with. Im hetero, but it saddens me that two people who want to make a commitment can not.

Its against moral and ethical values. A few days back, you have watched in CNN news that 86 % of gays have HIV.
Even then you think that it will happen.

There is no question of freedom. The question is of continuation human race, family set up, dignity, grace , respect and over all to abide by the rules and regulations set by GOD and his messengers thru HIS books.
Any thing against nature may not bring any thing useful / fruitful to society.

America has always been about equal rights for all. Marriage should be a right enjoyed by all. As long as discrimination of any kind still exists here, we will keep struggling towards that American ideal of equality for all.

It could, but I think that sticking with a definition of marriage that has lasted for thousands of years is better. The nonstop propaganda of the Mainstream Media makes it likely to happen.

I am all for it, and I believe it will happen, eventually. It might be quite a while, though. Especially considering attitudes like that stated right above my answer.

I think maybe it could happen if Bush wasn't our president and yes just like women, blacks, and Jews, gay people will someday have equal rights! GAY PRIDE!

that is completely different. God said homosexuality is a sin. did He say it's a sin to be female or black? NO! i hope it doesn't happen. and i'm not the only one, if you paid attention to the elections you'd know that almost all of the states that had marriage bans on the ballots got them passed!
