Honestly, I don't know. Maybe some people feel threatened by it? Some people say it goes against the Christian religion, but I personally don't believe that at all. I guess it's just a fear of the unknown!

Marriage is a loving bond and spiritual commitment between two people who love each other, not our government. I'm Gay. If I decide I love some one to tangle up with financially, and any other way, I will find a way. I'm not waiting for Joe Hick Fundie to approve.
I think this whole marriage thing being sacred for only a male and female completely bogus. When I worked in a bindery (making books / printing), when we would merge one component with another we called it "marrying"... Sh*t, if the book and it's cover can get "married", then so can I!!!!

If you take into consideration that for many of millions of years it has not been a trend in our society and people who were kept it very hush hush that shoul dnswer your question. Think of what living hell they must have gone through because of religion and peoples opinion of them. In our day and age it has evolved to being more open and to public interest. To many it is the end of the world but to some it is only the beginning.

People are afraid of what they don't know or understand. I had the honor of knowing 3 non-traditional couples. 1 gay couple, 2 lesbian couples (if that fact makes any difference). They were just people. Nice people. No overt sexual talk or gestures. Just nice couples that were very involved in the community and charity work. They all worked, had great jobs, and paid taxes.

Because it means society is accepting a minority into its midst. Accepting gay marriage is treating the homosexual world as one with the hetrosexual world.
Because gays have many stigmas surrounding them (ie. all gay men are paedophiles), some hetrosexuals become afraid. Being afraid is fearing something you have a lack of knowledge or understanding for!

for gay people, it's the principle. i recognize no government the right to tell me (i'm straight) who i can and can't marry, and i see no reason why this should be different for gay people.
for homophobes, it's just a ridiculous hangup. soemthing twists in their gut at the thought of anything gay. believe it or not i've had people tell me they wouldn't care if gays married as long as there was no sex involved. how is that for ridiculous?

becasue it would take alittle power away from them. They have to keep as much as they can. Thats why they lie about what we do. They want to make sure that people are kept in the dark about what they do so they keep up the fight over something that is just between the couple

So they can forget that there are US soldiers getting killed in a war in Iraq.
"23 soldiers were killed today in Iraq" "Sorry, I'm busy trying to protect marriage from those freaky gay people."

It's just pandering. A way for religious conservatives to feel like they are doing something without really doing anything.
