If you're talking about a "the universe is out to get me today" kind of thing, not really, though it may seem that way at times. Think about it; those days that start out bad, but everything else goes okay, you really don't remember. Same with days that start out great, and then you have a couple bad things happen. No, the only days that really stand out are the ones in which everything seems to go right, or everything goes wrong. It's selective memory. We humans are pattern-seeking individuals. Statistically, they're bound to happen every so often. No great shakes. But the bad ones do suck when they come along. ;)

If I understand your question correctly...
Yes, a single event can set a series of events in motion.
Some examples:
There's heavy traffic on a freeway. One driver cuts off another, forcing him to hit the brakes, but too late to avoid a collision. The driver behind this one does the same & so on. Before you know it, you have a multi-car pile-up.
You argue with your wife or g/f. Then, you go to work in a bad mood. You snap at your coworkers all day. The boss gets wind of this, calls you into his office & rakes you over the coals. You leave work in an even worse mood. You're so preoccupied that you step out in front of a bus. Wham!
Does this answer your question?

Probably... I mean think about it: You get up late for work, you accidently kick the dog- who turns around and bites you- ripping your pants. By the time you change them- you're REALLY late, so you bolt out the door, jump into your car- & back into a car that happens to be passing on the street. Enraged- you jump out of your car- & start giving the guy hell for not watching where he was going. Turns out the guy is a plainclothes Officer who happens to be in the area checking on a call about someone kicking their dog.... ....Now do you believe in the Domino effect? :)

Only if the dominos ( and I mean this figuratively) are correctly spaced and the imputus is sufficient.
