the book is about honesty, a children's picture book with a chinese/asian setting. An emperor wants to find a bride and is looking for the most honest maiden in the kingdom. He gives all the ladies who show up a seed, not telling them what kind it is. He gives them a period of time to cultivate and care for the seed to become the most beautiful plant of them all. Whoever fulfills the task will become his bride. One young maiden who is very skilled with plants tries her best to care for the seed. Nothing grows. She is distraught when the time comes to bring their POT to the emperor when she has nothing to show him. She is the only one who was honest because the seed was ???. She is rewarded for her honesty. I remember the title is something like The Honest Pot, Honesty Pot...???? It is an Asian story/legend.

I read your description and I remember reading this book a few years ago. But the story I remember or think I remember is that the Emperor was looking for someone to inherit the kingdom. He had no heirs and he wanted to leave his kingdom to someone wise and honest.
One variation is THE EMPTY POT by Demi.
When Ping admits that he is the only child in China unable to grow a flower from the seeds distributed by the Emperor, he is rewarded for his honesty.
Another is Sanji's seed by B J Reinhard
In this folktale's retelling, the peasant Sanji prevails in his king's unusual search for a successor because he is willing to be honest in the face of ridicule.
And most recently The little seed: A Tale About Integrity by Sue Kueffner
When a king who has no heirs holds a contest to choose one of the children of his kingdom to be his successor, Amina the elephant does her best, but seems to be the only child who has failed. Includes tips for parents.

I don't think it's a book; just a short story called the Emporer's Seeds. Also he was looking for his successor, not a bride.
