it has either a dodge 727 or dodge 904 transmission. good cars I had one..it would go anywhere. If you need to repair it the good news is the transmissions I mentioned above are easy and inexpensive to repair. Take it to a garage and have it fixed. Towing it that way probably did do some damage...but them transmissions are very tough so you may not have done as much damage as you think .

fix it and drive it I say

By the way...it's an AMC Eagle...not a Jeep...but made by the same company...ford motor....ford starter...ford carb...chrysler transmission.

Good luck

Sounds like you may have damaged the tailshaft bushing and seal. If you don't have the transfer in nuetral then the tailshaft of the tranny will be engaged. If it's an automatic tranny then you will burn up the tailshaft bushings because they will be starved of fluid circulation which is supplied by the front pump and is the primary source of lubrication to eliminate friction and burning. Sorry for your troubles. Probably has a 904 chrysler tranny but not sure. Good luck.

Absolutely. You NEVER tow with the drive wheels on the ground. So your attempt to save a few bucks by not calling the tow truck is going to cost you anyway for a new transmission.

When you tow an auto. trans. the oil pump is not working so any parts that rotate are not being lubricated.
