I have a slight cold/sore throat. Seeing as I am 5 weeks prego, there really isnt much I can take ( i dont want my kid to have 7 eyes!) I am feeling much better today, ive been having hot (decaf) tea and soup. But someone told me, "if you're sick the baby is sick". I know everything you do affects your baby, but is my cold/sore throat harmful to the baby?!!

Congrats.

Not true! Your baby is happy and healthy in its little protective nest. I've never known a pregnant woman who did not get a cold or some sort of sniffles at least once during the whole 9 month ordeal and I've yet to see any baby harmed by it. It is pretty miserable, though, not being able to take anything for it. Good luck and I hope you feel better soon.

you're perfectly fine... pregnant woman still get colds. Just make sure to take extra care of yourself. Drink plenty of fluids and rest, rest, rest! Also keep eating a healthy diet for your growing baby. I too get very concerned about gettting sick, i am actually just getting over a cold myself but i am 24 weeks pregnant and my dr gave me the ok to take some meds (but i didnt take them because even with his word i was still hesitant). Anyway your baby is making a home in a fluid filled cushion and is protected from a lot. JUst keep a watch for any other symptoms, and call yout dr when in doubt. If you get a fever call dr right away and take tylenol to reduce. BE careful not to take anything else since you are so early. Good luck and congrats on your new pregnancy.

Your baby is fine and I commend you for being so careful about which medications you take. Part of the reason you are sick is your body is fighting so hard to keep your baby happy. When you are pregnant your body takes care of the baby first, and you second. Get some rest and stop worrying. When you see your doctor a few weeks from now you will be reassured by your babies heartbeat.

No, your slight cold is not affecting your baby. They will be fine. If you are not running a fever over 101 you should be fine. At this stage you can safely take regular strength tylenol if you are really miserable and your ob/gyn can suggest other meds if necessary. It's great you are trying so hard to be healthy for the baby. Congratulations and good luck.

No it isn't true, the baby is fine. I asked my doc the same thing and they said that there is no way a cold even a really bad cold can harm the baby.

Your baby should be totally fine. Your baby isn't going to have a cold just because you do. There are medicines that you can take while pregnant. I would recommend calling your Obstetrician for a list of safe medications to.

Your baby should be fine... still, call your Dr. if you begin running a fever or if the sore throat begins feeling like strep.

Good Luck!

Your a good mommy. You need to talk to your doctor. One thing that is positive. If you have a cold, your baby might, and the babies emune system will build up. Talk to your doctor. Oh yeah, congratulations!

your child, in the woom, is safe from all antigens, viruses and bacteria, the only link between you and your baby, aside from being inside of you is the umbilical cord, which provides blood oxygen and nourishment. other than that your child is sealed inside of you, the fluid that surrounds the child is there to protect him or her from just this type of thing, Good luck with the baby, and congratulations!
