Honor appears to be completely lost in these modern times... I'm very depressed about this, for if people do not appreciate honor, how will we separate the good from the bad?
Doesn't anyone think it's 'better' to face your enemy than to stab him in the back?

I believe we are living in a " Make believe " world.. More and more it is becoming difficult to differentiate between the real and the imaginary. Already we had problems with the real and the artificial. Now the imaginary is further complicating it.

The Media, particularly the TV, keep on projecting comflicting views on everything , leaving us to decide between the good and the not so good. . A president is projected as the world saviour. The same president is shown as a demon and a killer. Each side shows their so called proofs. You and I , what do we believe or make out of it. ?

Honour is the first casuality. We donot know we are honouring the good or the bad!

At one time we believed in the non partisan religious /spiritual leaders to help us sort out the honourable, the good and the bad. Now, even they have fallen pary to this mental assault.

We are , more and more, pushed to make our own decisions on all these matters.

Honor is a noble concept.
Believe or not, Honor still exist among honorable men/women. Tthey are appreciated and valued by honorable person. There are enough honorable men and women in this world to sustain human existence.

On the other hand,
Like all things, values such as honor, good and bad also change in time and space.
I would claim that viewing older values, norms and more as "more" honorable is being nostalgic to the past without considering the ever changing world.
A case in point, How many of current humanists or religious person would consider a suicide is a honorable way out of this world. At a point in history, suicide was consider a most honorable deed by unbending people of principle.

Point of my answer is that if you act as your heart directs you, you are an honorable person. Act the act that you would not regret later.

Political Correctness has destroyed honor. Everyone has an excuse for every dishonorable action, and most people these days are too worried about being called a racist, misogynist, insensitive, callous or whatever to call dishonorable people out and out liars. With almost no fear of repercussion, the base elements of society are free to do what they want. Then the crowd mentality takes over. If he can do it, why can't I? Now, miserable behavior has become commonplace. Simplistic, but the basic elements of what I believe is wrong these days. However, as noted above, honor is still out there. Your question proves that. Lead by example.

I believe the fault comes in holding people responsible for their actions.
If someone doesn't want to earn a living and live off the government, then we support that person and say that they live in an economically depressed area and they are unable to find an appropriate job.
If someone commits a crime, especially a misdemeanor then we say they made a mistake, don't do it again. If they do then in a trial we can not bring up past actions.
If someone tells you something then you must hold them to it and state that they have no honor, and are a failure on society.

I'm afarid that the honour is still there, but because of the way our society is arranged it must take a different road.....never fear it is still there you just have to know how to find it..... See Zen Buddism, Taoism (Daoism) in the Far East Religions and read up a bit.... that might lead you in the right direction.... and pass the books along to someone else that has also asked those questions.... we'll all be better for it!

Capitalism replaced honor,& when it comes to your enemy read the book 'The Art of War' by Sun Tzu, many choices, not as simple as face or stab. below is about the book.

Honor is the expression of courtesy and respect. All of which have generally left our society. Mainly because we have made too many mistakes. As those who do wrong continue to escape their just desserts, the problem will become more virulent.

I do neither. I go about my business. I don't start anything and I don't let anything get to me. I think that it's a shame that children seem to have less honor for their elders.

Philosoph... Prof. said it well. (Answer above)

I think that honor is alive and well. If you look for it you will find it. And if you display it people will notice and comment.
