I recently bought some little kuhli loaches. When bought, the guy at the store gave me some large pellets called, "Nutrafin Spirulina Algae Tablets" These tablets are fairly large considering the size of the fish. The tablets sink to the bottom, and eventually break apart, are my kuhli's eating these? Or what is going to happen. I only have two kuhli's, plus a betta in there ( just testing relationships.) So what is the best thing to do?

Didn't you ask this question last night?

If so, why are you asking it again? If not, I'm sure yahoo suggested reading it before asking again.

EDIT: Read the question that was posted last night: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AuTeKoeTMM2NWpGfK9W9IIjzy6IX?qid=20061118204019AA8Ey4G

There were some great answers given there.

In most tank Kuhli live off the food that the other fish miss. In your tank throwing more food will likely just over feed your betta. (Certainly my betta are complete pigs.) While you are on the right track with the sinking food. The guy at the store steer you a bit off. The tables you have are for pelco, algae eaters, and live bearers (molly, guppy...)

Really you want a meatier food for Kuhli. (Like a shrimp pellet. see example liknk while we are on the hagen site.) Kuhli like your betta are carnivores.

What you got isn't horrible. I bet it's got a fish meat component to it. I keep it as the kuhli could use some roughage once a week or so. Also if you get any molly, guppy, platty/swordtail, pelco it may be handy.

PS- You don't need to supplement the khulhi's food every day. Maybe 3 times a week, and very small amounts after lights out.

This is what I have done with mine, I don't feed them!

They usually dig in the gravel and eat all the extra food from feeding your fish.
If you're feeding pellets only to your betta, you might want to throw in some flakes in the bottom of tank every night or get a very very small tablet.

. I am a big fan of coolie loaches for 37 years. They like to root around the bases of plants and rocks. Loaches are also equipped with taste--sensitive barbels, which supplement their visual recognition. Loaches are active during the night. They are attracted to worms like a magnet! little is known about their breeding methods. In their natural habitat they scatter their eggs. I have never tried the tablet food that you mentioned. Mine love worms so much so that is what i feed mine. If the worm will fit in the loaches mouth mine are satisfyed. They like the water at 75 degrees F. My advice : try worms.

No cause for worry. If the loaches look like they are not eating, wait till the tablets break apart and the kuhlis will eat them .Do remember that they are not completely herbivorous and can eat flakes and tubifex.

Overfeeding is a common mistake.Overfeeding clogs your filter and decaying food breaks down into deadly toxins.
Because kuhli's are nocturnal you should feed them just before you turn off the light. I would feed them 1 tablet at night for starters and keep a eye on their growth and condition.Good Luck and enjoy, fish keeping is very rewarding in many ways.

Nothing. When the pellets break apart, the loaches will eat them.
