The win XP freezes at the logo screen during the installation.
it went through Normal Format process and setup process and when it restarts for the first time, it gets stuck.
I did research and did everything that I found that might work but
I found that nothing works...
I tired changing boot order, reinstall with full format and with other OS cds...
But I never tried updating BIOS, if you think that that is the only solution, please advise me how I can do that...
One more thing.... my computer used to work just fine on WIN PRO SP1, but the OS that I am trying to install is WIN PRO SP2... does that matter? Peace!!

Try reinstalling but tell Windows XP not to try and detect your network settings. If that doesn't work, Maybe you need to format and partition your hard drive. You do this with the Windows XP disk in the CD-Rom drive. At the command line type in diskpart, then hit enter. Follow the directions. If you get stuck, type diskpart /? then "enter". You will get some instructions on the screen with details about the function.

The best way is to download Ccleaner here http://bitly.com/UrALrK

Or you can go on Windows operating system locate the command prompt and go there to do the following:
Create a Recovery file of system and date it today.

Then begin by;
delete the 'Temp' folders..they have hidden subfolders so you need to set the attributes in order to bypass this. For each subfolder delete all cookies and rubbish left behnd after install-uninstalled programs. Do a 'dir' command to check your progress. Make sure the 'Temp' file is empty.

goto c:\windows\prefetch and delete everything in there..no exceptions

goto c:\windows folder and delete all the '$' files that have been installed by updates. They can all be succesfully deleted and just take up disk space.

Locate the Internet Temporary Files..Check to see how high the saving level is..some have it set at 30 days..but that stores faaaar tooo much data..though it slows down the system overal. Keep this to a minimum..suggest 2 or 5 at most.

Delete all 'cookies' all those you don't need.

Locate the windows directory and go through the folders you know and those you don't need. Check this once a week at least. Some programs will install under XP as NT and older systems where there is no check of systems weight.

Check to see that system files have not changed since last booting. Things like .ini files or .bat are important items.

Check for 'Hidden Directories' all over the disk...do this at the command prompt:

dir *.* /ah wil show these hidden directories

Check the 'dir' command for all parameters

Hello!

Given your situation, I would get you to try swapping out the RAM modules with either new ones or putting your modules into another working computer.

In my experience as a computer technician, I have often found that when a computer freezes (or reboots itself) during startup, it is often the RAM that is experiencing a fault.

This can be an odd and very frustrating problem, but has been proven time and time again. Luckily it's usually an inexpensive and quick repair to make to get you back up and running.

Cheers!

Windows uses a large amount of memory, it uses the memory from the small replaceable boards that you pop into the pci slots (caution if one of the boards is not working properly windows can't route the info to install. Take the boards out and have them checked by the Geek squad or micro center for free. I hope that I have been of help.

Yes on old SP2 versions had some compatibility issues, but that was fixed by devel. in its later version. You have to upgrade ur BIOS because of Intel's Processor mismatch error with BIOS. So upgrade ur BIOS. go to ur motherboard manufac..'s site and search for ur bios type.

Sir, try install one more time! During the installation delete all partitions. Create two new partitions before continuing with the installation. Make one partition 20GB, format in NTFS and continue your installation.

READ THE SCREEN CAREFULLY BEFORE MAKING ANY SELECTIONS!

On the re boot, leave the system alone! Give it up to an hour before trying anything else. Service packs have nothing to do with you installation! If there were an issues with your computer, your installation would not start up! I believe that your computer is good! Issues may be around your hard drive!

128MB RAM is the problem. (256MB will also be a problem.) And with a 233MHz CPU it might not be freezing, it may just take a few hours to boot. (You're racing in the Indy 500 with roller skates and asking why it takes so many minutes to complete a lap.)
