There isn't much time left, but what I am looking for is this: How in the world can a pet vet diagnose [and subsequently treat] pet depression? Is there some sort of behavior scare that he uses? Also, what is the protocol for prescribing medication?

I've had a dog that was very good at destroying the place on Prozac. That did wonders and I could finally leave him alone. As for Therapy....I think there are some nieve people that make some evil people rich with that.

That average person with depression takes at least 10yrs of therapy to acquire progress(it actually working)or to be released from medication. How long does a dog live?

In most cases, it takes another dog to help that one along. We will never understand what it means to live 3yrs and already have the body and mentality of a young adult of 21yrs old. Neither does a $100 an hr. so called doggy shrink.

As for Protocall, I actually looked into this once. There is none! A vet can treat with whatever medication they see fit and it's very hard to prove that they are abusing their power and that ability. There is also no clear way a vet can diagnose depression. It is really just their opinion when there is nothing 'medical' that would cause the animal to not want to eat, or seem to enjoy life. However with people, our bodies actually produce chemicals in the brain. When we lack the right amount the brain doesn't function correctly. There has yet to be a case study on whether animals have those same chemicals.

I've taken care of a lot of abused animals. In all honesty, some would seem to have depression. But it had nothing to do with a chemical imbalance that drugs could correct. Their hearts were damanged....it takes bonding and love over a long period of time to fix.

Contrary to popular belief animals have feelings too. After all we are members of the animal family and look at us. I had a chicken who was depressed after her babies were removed. I had a dog who was depressed after his mate was killed. Look how scared they can get when being chased.Feelings are mad, sad, glad, scared and sexy! Best thing is to recognize their feelings, decide what is causing it, and then treat. ie I moved the dog closer to the house so he had more company, I got my bird a new friend when his mate died. Its usually about companionship or environment. And loving care will often fix what pills won't.

If i did no longer have my dogs i could be lifeless. i do no longer prefer to be living, yet I additionally love my dogs plenty, i could no longer kill myself and pass away her on my own. i recognize no man or woman who might take her and preserve her like I even have. and she or he's a senior dogs with some continual wellbeing problems, and who might take a dogs like that. I even have seen killing us the two on the comparable time, yet I even have feared i might kill her and that i does not die and then what might ensue, i might prefer to be hospitalized. And, too, if I died and she or he did no longer, it would be returned to the comparable difficulty of the place might desire to she pass. while i'm having a stressful time she only will come over and take a seat next to me. And my agoraphobia supplies me some 2-block radius that i'm able to stroll her. yet while i did no longer have her, i does not pass away my living house ever. I order in each and every thing. while i'm depressed, she retains me business corporation, while i'm stressful, she calms me down. when I cry, she only sits pressed next to me. while she does those issues it makes me concentration on her and not what i'm at the instant feeling which could be effective in some circumstances. on occasion i think under pressure while i recognize she needs to stroll added yet I walk to a community park that's a block away and enable her play and sniff approximately. i recognize for a actuality that if i did no longer have a dogs, i does not be alive.
