Your friend disconnected the outside door handle! You'll have to take off the inside door panel and reconnect it,,,probably just a clip to snap back into place or back onto a rod. Your arm will get scratched up reaching into the door through the small openings provided, but it shouldn't be too hard. Good luck!

The door panel needs to be taken off to see what your well intentioned friend tore up. Take it to a body shop.
Keep in mind that your friend was trying to help you out even tho you were the one screwing up (keys not in the car). Next time try a door other than the drivers door.

Yeah, the lock is out of whack. It may be broken, out of alignment, or your friend may have pulled a rod off of the locking mechanism. If you can, take the inside panel off the door and look to see if there are any pieces that are not properly attached. If you cannot do it, call a local locksmith and see if he/she will come out and fix it.

he probably dislodged or broke the clip that actuates the outside door handle. with the window rolled up remove the inner door panel...you may have to have the window rolled down to get the panel off...but then roll the window back up. Then look and you will see where the outside door handle hooks up to the linkage. You should be able to fix it from there.
Hope this helps
