So this is what happened to me. A couple of months before my first period I saw white, or sometimes yellowish stuff in my undies. It started getting stronger and then lighter again. It was weird. Then one day I noticed that for some reason I was mad at my mom for nothing. I got a lot of those mood swings. Then one day I had this cramp at the whole lower part of my tummy, like around the belly button. I got my period that day, at home, thankfully.

This is what I told another girl with a similar question:
Every one is different. The inside edge of my right thumb goes numb for about 20 minutes the day before I get my period. I didn't figure that out though, until my late 20's. It may take a while for you to get used to your body, and the best way I can suggest is a journal. Mark a calendar for when you anticipate your next cycle, and each day until that date write briefly anything you felt that was different. Mark the actual day you started your cycle, and do this for several months. You just might see a pattern. Good luck!

You can't predict the day or time you will get your first period. You'll have had discharge for around 2 years, breast tenderness off and on for the same amount of time, low back/abdominal cramping or dull pain periodically. The day it happens it will probably come as a surprise. It will feel like discharge. If you are lucky if will feel like more than usual and you will check yourself before it seeps through your clothes.
Good luck. :-)

Is this your first time? Menarche is the first menstruation. There is such a thing as "premenstrual syndrome" wherein different people feel different things before their menstruation.
Dysmenorrhea is the term for abdominal, usually in the lower abdomen or hypogastric area, pain felt before and during menstruation.
Some people feel headache, breast tenderness or pain, fullness in the breast before their menstruation but not all people feel it.
You should encircle the date in the calendar when you have your first day of menstruation every month. It is usually a 28-30 days cycle. Counting from day 1 of menstruation to the day 1 of the next cycle.
If it is bothering you, then consult your obstetrician. She is the doctor for menstrual abnormalities. Another option will be to go to your family physician.

What happened to me is I got really bad cramps-that doesn't happen to everyone-and you may feel a lil sick, but you'll be fine. It may be heavy the first time, but it'll get lighter through out months you have it. You may have really bad cramps and not have them again. That's what happened to me,got them the first time, and haven't gotten them since.TIP!!! DO NOT WEAR WHITE PANTS WHENEVER YOU ARE ON IT!!! if it seeps through.......you know the rest.......Good Luck!!!
