I'm not judging! I'm just interested in cultural differences in people and why people do what they do? We never used to see many Indians but now with outsourcing and contractors--well you see more of them in the US. So I've just become curious about them. Are they different when they are at home -- do they just not show affection in public? Is it related to religion or is it cultural? regional?

Traditionally, dating is taboo in Indian culture, therefore public displays of affection are also. Also, in India it's still illegal to kiss in public! However, people often show affection to their kids. These are just cultural practices.

It is ok for male friends to show more affection in public than in our culture such as holding hands etc... and it is in no way considered gay.

In the Hindu religion you are only to shake with one hand. It is sort of offensive to hold or shake with the other hand. (I can't remember if it's the left or right).
