DIfferentiated Instruction simply means employing different instructional techniques for each type of learner. It does not mean a classroom of 25 to 30 different plans, it means looking at the learning styles and levels and trying to address them within a lesson. You use visual, oral, aural, kinesthetic and concrete teaching techniques so that learners are taught to their strengths. DIfferentiated instruction should not be confused with individualized instruction which is tailoring lesson plans to each student who has an IEP.

That is an awefully broad question. In general, differentiated instruction is instruction catered to individual learning styles and abilities. A lesson plan that integrates differentiated instruction includes various presentation materials, such as visual aids, kinesthsetic activities, and verbal instructions. It can also include adaptations of the lesson based on the abilities of the students. A simplified or extended version of the plan can be included.

Differentiated instruction means you are tailoring your lesson and assignments to meet the needs of every student in your class. It's a big task. If you have English Language Learners, your lesson has to meet their needs while at the same time, meeting the needs of GATE students. It's a skill, and one not easily mastered.
