I was married in 1975, and I remember that I was absolutely appalled when gasoline went up to 45 cents per gallon. It's not quite the time you're looking for, but it's not too far off - hope it helps.

I think around 50 cents - I remember in 79 we had a gas war in town and it was 50 cents per gallon

Gas just changer from gallons to liters then. Gas was about .97 per gallon, then changed to around .53? ltr

in febuary of 1978 it was .75 per gallon where I lived

It was a lot less expensive then, than it is now, but people complained about it costing too much. It was just over 50 cents.
