It means putting off a little reward now,in exchange for a greater/bigger goal later. the simplest way to put it is saving a little bit of money now to put it all down on a big purchase later, IE car first home whatever. its like you know you are saving the money for something and it KINDA makes you feel good. but then when the big day comes, and you know you have been waiting and more importantly working for it, that is delayed gratification.

I am not positive, but I would assume delayed gratification is when someone is shown appreciation for an act or gesture at a later point than expected or usual.

It could be one of two things 1 He is telling you he doesnt want sex with you until maybe you are married or know each other for a while
2 If you have been having sex he is telling you that he is holding his climax until after or when you climax

I answered your other question as well, before I read this part.

I can't be certain without knowing the rest of the conversation (what prompted him to say that, for example), but to me, it sounds as if he's saying "good things come to those who wait..."

So, it doesn't sound like it's all bad for you. :)

It is putting off something that you would enjoy doing right now, until a later time.
