I think it has to do with tradition. I always take off my shoes in the house. So doesn't everyone that enters. The house is so much cleaner when everyone leaves their shoes on the porch. Whenever people come over I make sure they take off their shoes. We recently had a party and there was like 40 pairs of shoes both adults and kids shoes on the porch. Everyone walked around in socks that night and no one even cared it is just more comfortable to leave your shoes off in the house.

My theory on this is that the origin of taking off shoes for the easterners is as a traditional mark of respect. For example in most Buddhist and Hindu Temples (in the east and elsewhere)people take off shoes.
Also there is the practical side becuause they did not want to take all the mud and dirt inside the houses. (Mud and dirt are/were common in the poorer countries) . I see this now as a silly tradition because in the west mostly the bottom of the shoes are pretty clean all the time and it's quite messy to remove shoes at a gathering or at a party in a house.
Bottom line is Tradition for tradition's sake is STUPID.

Why does you not learn to to ask correctly, I believe the ? you were trying to ask was.
Why don't western people take off their shoes, when they enter their homes ?
That do you consider west? In my mind everything west of California is west and everything east of New Mexico is east.
If you you haven't figured it out I'm sending this reply from Arizona, Yuma to be more precise.
As it was stated before by others, we here in America, don't remove our shoes because it really isn't part of our culture.
However we ( at least some of us) do abide with the wishes of our friends and college that have spent time in Japan and other parts of the world that it is custom, to remove ones shoes before entering their domicile.

Western as in North America? Hmmm I'm Canadian, and I take my shoes off when I come in the house, and it's pretty much common practice here.

I'd say about 40% of houses in the US do take off their shoes. Up significantly from just a few years ago.

probably because of the different cultures, i am from the U.S. and am hispanic, we (my family)don't take our shoes off upon entry to our house but do take them off out of comfort. Different cultures mean different customs and i know for a fact their are some westerners who do follow that custom. hope that helps!

Becuase the USA is a free country.... it's up to each family to decide if they keep on or take off their shoes before entering their homes.
