I went outside this morning and my car was actually shaking!! A few seconds later, one of the MANY strays in the apt complex comes running out!!! I am so afraid of starting the car while one is it it because that is how one of my cats growing up died. My dad went out to heat up the car one morning and our cat was in there and got all cut up to pieces. The experience didn't kill him but he was so badly hurt he had to be put to sleep to put him out of his misery :'( I just don't want that to happen again....please help me!!!

I used tap the hood when I walked by and stomp my foot a couple of times on the floorboard before turning the key. Last few vehicle I've had have no place by the fan for a cat to climb up on.
Had two cats that happened to when I was a kid.

Tap on the hood a bunch before you get in and then toot the horn. Give it a few seconds then start it up. If the cat didn't get out by then it's like one of those squirrels who changes directions in front of you a bunch of times before you slam on the brakes (survival of the fittest).

blow the horn each time you get in your car. keep a sticky note on dash to remind you. find an old dog house and put straw in it for the cats to keep them from the cold or call animal control to set traps and catch them.putting them to sleep is more humane than cutting them up in a car engine. they are cold and looking for warmth and dont know the dangers. tame cats should be kept inside or a place thats safe in cold weather

every morning before you start the car, open the hood and see if you see anything on it!
There really is no way that you can stop the cats from entering the hood or the engine!
good luck with it and i wish you my best!

You know... I don't mean to be rude but if a cat is dumb enough to hang out in a car engine... Whatever happens to it might be just what he deserves. I've had several outdoor cats and I've had several strays in my neighborhood and not a single one of them was stupid enough to get inside a car. There's also no way to prevent it; those sprays to keep cats off the furniture won't work, I've tried several of them and there's no way to block off the area... I'm sorry but that's just the way it is.
