The Himalayan Mountains were/are still being created by compressional stresses between two different continental plates "colliding" together. This is also known as a convergent boundary.

The Indian plate is moving northward into the Eurasian plate. When two continental plates "collide" neither one will be subducted because both are of about the same density. Because of this, the Indian plate continually pushes into the Eurasian plate causing deformation of both crustal plates. The plates buckle from the pressure and stress being applied over such long periods of time and essentially they have no where to go but "up".

Not to be disrespectful...but the San Andreas Fault is a transform or strike-slip fault where two blocks of rock slide horizontally past each other in opposite directions. There is no subduction taking place at all. Also, continental crust cannot be subducted under continental crust because they are of equal density.

The Indian subcontinental plate is moving north and hitting the asian plate, the edges of them are lifted where they collide to form the mountains.

If it was a case where one continent was being pushed under the other, then you would have a situation like the San Andreas fault, because that is what caused it.

If there were any earthquakes in the formation of the Himalayas, they were so long ago, there were no people there. I believe that the Indian subcontinent has now stopped moving, and that is why the Himalayas are no longer growing.

two continental plates came together causing the land between them to rise upwards forming the young fold mountains:the Himalayas..
however this wasn't the only factor contributing to the formation of Himalayas there were many more but this was the major or rather prominent one..
hope that helps

Continental drift or plate tectonics.
Along ridges in the oceans the sea floor is spreading, driving the continental plates.
the sub Continent of India is driving into the Asian continent.
The word for mountain building is orogenesis
try looking up that word and you should get all the info you need.
