Smoking should not be banned totally because it is not against society unlike the use of marijuana.

I am FOR the Smoking Ban -- and there is a simple reason for this -- Second-Hand Smoke DOES harm the health of OTHERS -- and I am PROOF of that -- especially as an Asthmatic.
Prior to the Smoking Bans in Restaurants in my State (and they stop them from smoking in the entries too), I found it impossible to go out and enjoy some of my hard-earned money by sitting in a Restaurant and be able to eat an entire meal -- I just could NOT do it -- with all the smoking going on (and even in a Non-Smoking Section), I would find myself suffering -- and having to resort to my Rescue inhalers and then, if those did not work, my Nebulizer and a trip to the Hospital.
I support a total ban on smoking in any public area -- and also in any establishment that serves the general public. there is no way that any smoker should inflict their habit on anyone -- and this includes children, adults, or the elderly.
In their own home, or in their own vehicles -- hey, do what you want. But when it comes to the health of others around you -- and it is a PROVEN FACT that second hand smoke DOES cause serious health consequences to those who are inflicted with it involuntarily -- then it is a PRIORITY to protect the HEALTH of the General Public -- and STOP the smoking -- period.
Besides, a restaurant meal is only about 30-45 minutes, an hour at tops. It is not that much of a sacrifice to say NO to smoking so that everyone can enjoy the experience without having to inhale something involuntarily that is harmful to their bodies.

I am against smoking bans especially outside in the open air. Indoors, if proper ventilation were utilized, cigarette smoke would not be a problem to anyone. That being said, these bans are hyped way out of proportion and have become a political issue. The politicians don't care about the people because if they did, our ill and elderly would have proper medical coverage that doesn't make them go without food! AND to top it all off there is a multitude of carcinogenics on our society that we are all exposed to daily far more dangerous than cigarette smoke, but are they banned? NO! Smog, factory chemicals in the air and water, formaldehyde in new carpeting, auto fumes in enclosed parking areas and on and on and on. There isn't enough room in this forum to list all the reason why smoking should not be banned. If a person chooses to smoke (poor choice that it may be) is absolutely no reason for condemnation from anyone. Thanks for letting me vent. I'm so tired of rudeness from non-smokers, propaganda (political), and the lack of choice in so many matters.

I am against any law that limits freedoms. Before you criticize think about this. Why not a law that bans wearing perfume or cologne these items can cause violent reaction in people that are allergic. At most the government should allow incentives to businesses that go smoke free. The trouble is that everyone wants to make what they hate illegal and make the things they want mandatory. These infringements lead to a fascist society.

Everyone knows smoking is bad!!! If you don't know it you've been under a rock. Adults in a free world should be allowed to make life choices (including assisted suicide). Marijuana is not legal and the gov. knows thousands use it anyway. So whoever the selfrightous people were that slipped through and got the smoking bans passed are just SLICK. I was appalled of how fast it went through in NY. NYers are supposed to be outspoken & tough and no one did fight back. There are still places in some tabacco states that you can smoke in public. But these slicks are penetrating a little a a time.

Against. Government shouldn't be able to tell us what to do with our bodies, which is the same reason I believe abortions should remain legal, mandatory vaccines at birth should become a choice of the parents, and seat belt laws should be changed. If it's something that's going to hurt more than yourself, then I believe the government should step in to keep order, but if the only life you're endangering is your own, then no one should stop you from doing what you want.
Of course, if you're asking about banning smoking in order to protect non-smokers from second hand smoke, I agree with the smoking bans within establishments, but once you're outside, you should be able to smoke un-taxed cigarettes as much as you want.

I'm for it. There are many reasons, but one of the main reasons is the amount of money it costs to treat smokers for medical conditions. And guess who pays for some of that expierence. Me and you pay for it when it comes to those persons who can't afford insurance, but can afford cigarettes. Also, I was so glad when Georgia banned smoking in public buildings, especially restaurants. I've never found an eating establishment that actually had a real non-smoking area. Besides, my children deserve to breath clean air when in public buildings. I could go on and on. Don't get me wrong, I like a good cigar now and then, but I ad hear to the laws when doing so and if my smoke ever bothered someone, my smoke was extinguished right then.

I used to smoke at least 3 packs a day and went cold turkey. I haven't had a cigarette for 24 years and I don't object to people smoking around me. The longest it takes to smoke a cigarette is about 5 minutes. I think cigarette smoke is minute compared to the exhaust fumes of cars and industry.

I'm a nonsmoker who is against most of the bans. There are ways to make nonsmoking sections clear of smoke without banning it. I don't feel comfortable with this increasing tendency of groups to tell us what we can and cannot do. Although it hasn't affected me, yet, I'm sure that if we allow this trend to continue, some day it will.

I'm all for smoking bans in public places such as bars, restaurants, and shopping malls. Smokers will say they have a right to pursue their habit, but those of us who don't smoke also have a right to breathe air that's not contaminated with all the carcinogens that cigarette smoke produces. I don't know how many times I've been at a bus shelter and was forced to stand outside in the weather to escape the smokers inside.
