You've got it backwards. Patrick Henry spied for the British against the Americans. He was on the British side. Not a good choice. He was hanged for treason.

He gave a lot of speeches, mostly in defense of anarchy. He was Irish and hated the British. He was hung in Porto Rico (where the Colonies had run him off to) for trying to foment an insurrection.
