Has to be Alexander the great, conquered most of the known world.

I'd say Alexander the Great. He was one of the first to actually ride into battle and fight side by side with his soldiers. He was also known to be extremely 'generous' with those that he had captured when he conquered their lands. No other had accomplished more than he had (at that time) by the time he died in his 30's.

Of course, this is just my opinion from all I have gathered from my history classes.

Cesar was able to do more with less troops as well as being outnumbered more and still win compared to the others. My money would be on him.
