This is simple algebra: Starting problem: 6x-0.37=5(x-0.28)

6x-0.37=5(x-0.28)
Use distributive prop. to get rid of the ()s by multiplying the x by 5 and the -0.28 by 5. you get:

6x-0.37=5x-1.4 Now combine like terms by adding 0.37 to both sides:

6x=5x-1.03 Now combine like terms again by subtracting 5x from both sides: then you get:

x= -1.03 That is what x equals.
Are you trying to solve for x?
If so then this is the answer. X= -1.03

To check your answer and see if it is correct plug the value for x (-1.03) back into the equation and see if both sides are equal. If they are then the value for x is correct. If not check your work you probably made a small math error.

CHECK:
6x-0.37=5(x-0.28)
6(-1.03)-0.37=5(-1.03-0.28)
-6.18 - 0.37=5(-1.31)
-6.55= -6.55

This answer is correct. Do you understand now?

Okay, what we want to do here is find the value of x.

6x - 0.37 = 5*x - 5*0.28
6x - 0.37 = 5x - 1.4
6x - 5x = - 1.4 + 0.37 ( rearrange terms, when you bring something from one side of the equals to sign to the other the sign changes...)

x = -1.03

The trick is to multiply it out, then combine similar terms...

6x-0.37 = 5(x-0.28)
multiply out
6x - 0.37 = 5x - 1.40
combine terms
6x - 5x = 0.37 - 1.40

I'll trust you to solve it from here...

First you would use the distributive property. 6x- 0.37 = 5(x-0.28)
6x-0.37 = 5x-1.4
Then you would subtract 5x from 6x. -5x -5x
1x-0.37 = -1.4
Do the oppiset and add 0.37. +0.37 +0.37
1x = -1.03
Divide by 1. /1 /1
Final answer. x = -1.03

Step 1........isolate your variable X

Step 2........6x=5(x -.28) +.37 (added .37 to each side)

Step 3.......expand the right side, 6x=5x - 1.4 + .37

Step 4......subtract 5x from both sides, 6x -5x = - 1.4 + .37

Step 5......x = -1.03

are you kidding me?!

6x-.37=5x-1.4

6x-5x= -1.4+.37

x= -1.03
