NO!! people thought having dogs and cats as pets were weird.
they have chinchillas and rats for pets nowadays!
they have tarantulas and centipedes!!

rabbits are smart (although some can be just plain dumb)
they need to be trained from birth since they are still pretty wild.
mine was litter trained and could do 5~6 tricks. she even learned to open her cage! (and beg for milk. and figured out the family hirearchy and went to dad for the love)
if the rabbit really loves you, the rabbit will show it by licking you.
once you get rabbit kisses, you know you're doing your job right.

you can get cat leashes to fit your rabbit. read up on books and figure out what breed you want. they range from 2~20 pounds.

I have 14, mostly rescues of some sort or another. I know people think they're dumb but that's because they don't spend time with them. The more time you can spend with your rabbit the more they will trust you and the more you'll get to know their quirks. Most are smart and each has an individual personality. A big problem that I hear a lot is the rabbit suddenly has a behavoural change. I can guarantee if this happens it's around 4-6 month when they hit puberty. Spay/neutering will take care of that.

One thing to keep in mind is that rabbits are a very social animal, if you can't spend time with it get two so they have company.

Lots of people have pet rabbits. They're friendly, don't take up a ton of space, and as long as you clean out their cage regularly, they don't smell bad.

There are many types of pet rabbits too. You can go from tiny 1 pound rabbits to some weighing 20 pounds or more. Check out a local farm show to find good breeders that will sell you rabbits raised as pets.

Are you weird? Who knows, but having a pet rabbit isn't.

No, there are people all accross the US and world that not only have them as pets but even show them like how cats and dogs are showed. Rabbits can even be house trained like cats. Check out the website for the American Rabbit Breeders Association.

http://www.arba.net

The ARBA has over 40,000 members all across the United States. Last year they held their National ARBA Convention here in Indianapolis, IN and had around 25,000 rabbits at just that one show! That's way more animals than what you'd ever see at the national dog or cat show.

I have a house bunny... And for your information, I do not consider that to be weird. I love my rabbit. He is a great pet.. he is potty trained, quiet, doesn't smell, likes to sleep in his cage and loves to play and be pet... I don't know why that would be weird... I think hes a pretty cool pet and definetly a smart choice. Why would you even say that? - If you have a pet rabbit, wouldn't you know how cool they are?? Dude, do you even have a rabbit???

No, having a rabbit as a pet is not weird. If it was weird then why would they have them at pet stores?

No, I don't think it is weird. Although I must say that rabbits are pretty dumb animals who do nothing other than the fact that their owners find them to be cute.

My sister has a rabbit and all it does is eat, take a dumb, and lie like a log in any corner it can find.

Not one bit. I love rabbits. They are one of the greatest pets you could get. I used to have three named Peter, April and May. April and May were red velvets (I'm not sure of that was exactly what they are called) and peter was a White New Zealand.

Nope, you're not weird. Rabbits make excellent pets. You can keep them in hutches outside, or you can housebreak them---to use litter boxes inside. (I recommend you keep them in hutches in areas where dogs can't harass them, say in a hutch in an enclosed garden or rabbitry.)
Keeping them around small dogs or cats will cause them to get fleas. Keeping them in hutches will get rid of fleas, simply because once the flea flies off, it falls out of the hutch and can't get back to its host animal.
