JG, I personally can't stand people who treat their dogs like their kids, perfect for selfish people though, they can just ignore them whenever they want and leave them home when they want to go out.
I know of a certain couple who got an abortion, killed their kid, yup, then went right out and bought a dog,
treated it like a child...disgusting.
the dog got killed right in front of his master who nudged the woman into getting the late term abortion which killed the only son he would have.......
divine justice??????

The word Fetus....after the 8th week of gestation.
Embryo is up to the 8th week.
Most terminations are performed prior to the 8th week. Not that it would matter in you strong opinion...just stating a fact.
I think the more important question is: "WHEN DOES LIFE BEGIN"

I often wonder the same thing. There has been reports of the baby jumping hard enough for the mother to feel during the abortion. When people have abortions they can not feel their baby move yet but during the abortion they report the baby jumping.Thats all the proof I need that the baby can feel pain. There is not much that you nor I can do to stop abortions.I just hope that all who has one or in some circumstances had several I hope that they will have regrets and be sad for the rest of their lives.I`ve been to web sites of what they call a fetus laying on the table after a abortion. What I saw was a baby in a hundred pieces and blood all over.I seen flesh on the table. The heart beat was recorded before the abortion was performed. To me that was a baby,a human life. Not just a fetus. As far as animal rights I believe that even animals deserve to be loved and protected.Just wish a baby had rights too.

Wether it's animal cruelty or not, is just a matter of opinion. Personally I see nothing wrong with eating meat. I'm in agreement that today, most pigs are not happily wallowing in mud, and most chickens are not grazing on green pasture. I do think though, that the vegans have a extreme take on what they believe goes on inside their so called "factory farms". A lot of them watch one silly PETA video and suddenly they know everything behind their meat. They become convinced that all pigs are thrown into boiling water alive and all chickens have all their bones broken by the time thy are slaughtered. I understand that animals today are not raised back how they used to be, but it's nit the way PETA says it is either. Now let's say two diffrent people offer to sell you a carton of eggs. One carton comes from a large corporation and was laid by intensively reared chickens. The other comes form a small, local farmer, laid by chickens who lived on pasture. In the long run, both chickens will be slaughtered when they stop producing and both roosters hatched will be butchered. You can either buy the local eggs, the intensively farmed eggs or buy none at all. If you buy none, eventually the large farm will just put the local farm out of business. If you buy the local eggs you will help keep the local farmer running. Personally I would rather support small scale agriculture rather than nothing at all.

O.K., first of all, I have my doubts a bit with that story. They don't tell you the sex of a baby when it has been aborted. In most instances the fetus is so damaged by the abortion it would be next to impossible to determine the sex anyway.
However, the comment I wanted to make about animal cruelty laws--those have always taken priority over the way humans have been treated. Did you know that the first case of child abuse (if I remember right it was in New York) that was ever prosecuted was prosecuted using animal cruelty laws. No kidding, there were no child abuse laws in place, but there were animal abuse laws.

cloe e i love the bite you have in your additional notes but if you disagree with me, please don't bite me!

i understand what you mean when you say "fetus" means "ok to kill" when we have animal cruelty laws? and I completely agree with you on that.

i'm sorry that i'm assuming you're in england and I can only talk specifically about british law 'cos it's the only law i have any detailed knowledge about, but this should be relevant elsewhere too:

the only reason why I think reasoning professionals like the queen, her MPs and judges might agree to pass the laws they have in favour of abortion is because some of the alternatives are more horrific.

children would main and perhaps even kill themselves at home or through performing back-street abortions if this was made illegal.

the costs human rights campaigners would be to government financially and voting wise would also make it impracticable to challenge and unfortunately science also does not support the rights of the unborn child enough to recognise that they too have a defensible right to life.

i wouldn't go as far as the pope in refusing to condone use of birth control like the condom and neither, i presume would you,
but at the same time, I think that the criteria for abortion need to be much more rigid. at least the seeker for this abortion should prove that the baby would have a bad life, or that the child would be too much for its mother to cope with or that there was a hightened risk that pregnancy or childbirth would pose an extra risk to the life of the mother.

but sadly these things are not likely to be considered because it would be too controversial and complicated to establish that sort of framework and the public consensus on this is likely to be that housing and resourcing for humanity is becoming a problem worldwide, therefore the less mouths to feed the better.

You're right. A fetus mets every criteria that science has for the definition of "life". Genetically the fetus is human, and distinct from both parents. Therefore, the fetus is a living human individual.
Why is it okay to kill a fetus, then?

It is because some people think that it is OK to kill a baby in order to maintain their pleasurable lifestyle, but keeping animals safe just doesn't hinder that lifestyle in the same way. They would claim that the fetus is just part of the woman's body where an animal is a seperate being.

Poeple on Yahoo answers prefer to blame the victims rather than the perps. Haven't you noticed that?

if you don't want to have a baby, abstain until you can use birth control. It's just not that hard to figure out.

These two things don't even go together, and fetus does not mean ok to kill. You're certainly entitled to be against abortion but bad mouthing others for their beliefs is not the way to share your belief with others.

People are nutso about their dogs. People who don't have kids tend to get dogs. They save their money and don't have to send dogs to college, so they have money to support dog causes.

I like dogs, just not their owners.
