The history and description of the Dragon vary greatly from place to place. For instence a European dragon is completely different from an Asian dragon. What they have in common is that they are large reptilian creatures of mythology. I'll put a link below to some information on Wikipedia. Hope it helps! :)

We are extremely cool creatures that just plain rock. Seriously, a dragon is like a giant lizard type creature that sometimes breathes fire and has wings. Images may vary. Some form of a dragon seems to exist in most cultures. There also seems to be two views of the dragon, good and bad. The Western view has the bad which is mostly due to Christianity. The Eastern view, and the one I use, is a symbol of power and divinity. I would suggest studying the dragon from the Eastern point of view as it is very positive and has a much more interesting history.

The dragon is a mythological creature from several ancient cultures, basically they are stories created to explain dinosaur bones and fossils (possibly even real dinosaurs that survived into the age of man), before the development of sciences like biology and paleontology. Several months back the History channel had a show dedicated to the historical origins of the Dragon myth and it might provide a few more historical references you could use to find related books that can go into more detail than a 1 hour show.

I think dragons were a bunch of dinosaur bones found in the medieval ages and stories were circulated to make children go to bed.

Dragons are a manifestation of all mans primal fears.
snakes (long necks), predatory birds (flying, swooping attacks), predatory cats (claws, fangs)
fire (fire breathing)
man has natural fear of such things because evolution has taught that to us as a survival instinct
that's why there are dragons in almost EVERY culture.
a dragon is what ya get when ya ball them all together....truly fear full to man.
when people thought they might be real =)
be well

At the beach I saw a seagull who had swallowed a balloon on a string "dragon" behind it. It was funny and I was sorry I didn't have a video of it.
