Probably the most evil female in modern film, in my opinion, is Nurse Ratched from One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. Purely because she enjoys the sense of control she feels over helpless psychiatric patients, she coaxes a harmless young man into killing himself.

I'm sure we'll see a lot of people writing in Hannibal Lecter as the greatest male villain. I'm inclined to put him at or near the top of the list. His ability to pierce the defenses of the psyche and manipulate people is horrifying.

For genderless villians, I'd suggest the creatures from the original Alien movies with Sigourney Weaver may be on the list. Single-minded as sharks, they are relentless, cannot be communicated with in any way but the most primal ways (like fear of fire) and bring humans low to the point of being animals themselves in the hope of survival.

relies upon on the rationalization of being undesirable. I probably want male, cuz it in basic terms makes extra sense to me, yet woman villains are cool. somebody pronounced in the previous which you're able to desire to have them be opposites, and which would be exciting cuz you're able to make the main substantial character fall in love with the villain. additionally, having them be struggling with over a female pal could be stable for a male vs. woman or male vs. male. as much as you :o)
