I need some good gift ideas. She's at a difficult stage. She doesn't really play with her dolls, Bratz, or barbies. She likes music, but has a radio already. Just looking for some good different ideas.

My daughter is 8, and here's some fairly inexpensive stuff she likes:

Art supplies (sketch pads, markers, stickers, beads, yarn and knitting needles)

Magic Treehouse books

Music CDs and DVD movies

Hair-styling stuff (barettes, fancy clips and scrunchies, brushes and combs)

Lotion, bath stuff (but steer clear of bubble bath!)

Nail polish

Wal-Mart gift card!! She loves shopping for her own stuff!

Good luck.

My mom got me a sewing basket at that age with needles, thread, a tape measure, seam ripper, etc. I loved it and still use it all the time even though it was 20 years ago that she gave it to me. She might also like taking up cross stich or something like that. There are also a lot of fun craft kits out there- try a small, independent toy store or order online for craft kits. Maybe a kit to make her own candles (with supervision), do oragami, learn embroidery, make jewelry, or make friendship bracelets. Some more grown-up art supplies like oil pastels or oil paints might be fun, too.

Otherwise maybe a board game or card game like Skip-bo or Set. A recorder (the musical instrument) could be good if you get a quality one and a book to learn how to play. Or cool stationary, fun gel pens, rubber stamps with ink, etc. If she's into it and allowed to wear it then maybe a manicure set and some nailpolish. I think that in-between age is a lot of fun to give more grown-up type stuff.

In any case I would give her a present or presents that give her something to do. Kids play with their toys that they get and even seven-year-olds need to have something to do on Christmas. I think all of my suggestions would give her something to do and I think that's important.

Get her a PS3!

It is a blu ray player, so basically you get the game console for free!! And it is educational! (Just don't let her play F.E.A.R.)!!!
