i worked in a bar/restaurant...after my shift i had some drinks with coworkers at the restaurant...i ended up getting a dwi that night. the next day i was fired for putting everyone(bartenders, managers, owners) in a bad situation. since this happened...employees cant drink after there shift at the bar...not just at this location...but all the other ones too (chain). my sister went into another location hung out and grabbed an application. shes friends with the manager at that one and he told her to not put her last name down bc they would hire her if they knew i was her sister. so im wondering...is it legal for them to fire me bc of that? is it right that all locations were told my name instead of keeping it confidential (slander), are they allowed to not hire my sister bc of something i did? (discrimination). someone help...im already embarassed enough for gettting a dwi...now its everyones business apparently. im very hurt, very sad, very ashamed...help

you can get fired for the stupidest reasons, and technically they can fire you for something like this. However, it's not the bars fault you got the dwi- it's yours, plain and simple. Businesses can make any rule they want about their co workers, unfortunately. At the bar I work at, I just can't be wearing a name tag. However, I think the rule is pretty strict.
And yes, it is a kind of discrimination to not hire your sister because of relation.
I think you've been treated unfairly by the restaurant, but it happens. And I'm sure next time you'll take a cab rather than driving? That was definitely your bad.
Just understand that bars face a lot of scrutiny from government and the public. You have to run a very clean business to ensure the security of the business, if that makes any sense. Not much for legality, but I hope it makes you feel a little better about it.

That does not sound legal to me. How was your drinking putting bartenders, managers, and owners in a bad position? It's your business if you drink not anybody else's! Of course getting a dwi is not good- you shouldn't be drinking and driving!!..but thats your business so I don't know why they would fire you and not allow other employees to drink after their shift. And that is definitely discrimination if they didn't hire your sister just because of what you did. Maybe you should get an attorney, because that situation does not seem right at all!

yeah hurry up and get a lawyer, to tell the courts how you are an "innocent" victim of society's rules. (that was all sarcasm in case you really are that naive to think you have a snowballs chance in hell of fighting this.)

if you're underage you shouldn't be drinking so you were the one who got into the embarassing situation.
