It may not really be missing, you may have just forgotten where you parked it.

You sure it's missing and not running rough?

Stupid question yes , but to a mechanic 2 different things

If it's missing as you say at idle , it's probably more of it running rough at idle and as some have said, a good tune up and a cleaning of the throttle body would do wonders (clean the throttle body first as usually that is the issue.. Too much oil buildup, which is normal on any Fuel injected car, will cause the vehicle to idle too low and feel like missing)

Usually a plug or wire break down will either happen under load or at almost any speed, not just idle.

You didn't give the engine size but another thing to look for is vacumn leaks that will cause a rough running at idle

Last thing would be to bring to a mechanic expert in check engine lights or your local Ford dealer to determine the actual cause.

it could be a number of things, usually a fouled out plug. also could be a lose or shorting wire. worst case scenario, one of your ignition coils could be bad bad as well, which would be the most expensive to replace. to test your wires spray a mist of water on them while the car is running, to check for a short, or arcing, cracked wires can short out and cause a miss fire. the plugs need to be removed and visually inspected. as for the coil, im not sure, im stuck with a 94 tempo with a cap and rotor, and im not sure how to test those. tune ups should be done around every 50,000 miles, depending on the quality of the parts you have

Check and make sure each and every one of the spark plug wires are connected to each plug and check and make sure each wire is connected to the distributor cap.
