From what I've learned, ALL bosses are going to be jackasses to you when you get into a profession. The best way to deal with it would be to take it in stride. Remember, chances are if you've ever hated your boss at some point, every other employee probably has as well, probably moreso than you.

If you're working at a part-time job, my recommendation would be to work there until you've had a good run about three to six months and then leave to find something else.

If it's a full-time job, make sure you surpass your boss one day in rank and then make him put up with your demands.

And if you're boss really is an overbearing asshole to the point that it really does affect your morale, quit your job but not before telling it to his face that you think he's a pompous jackass who needs to learn some ******* respect.

I have a boss that is difficult too (also a female, not sure if that matters).

I have learned:
1. Don't take things personally. If she is in the wrong just blow it off and don't allow it to affect you.

2. Do your job well and make sure you document your achievements.

3. Learn to laugh at the crazy antics. The more ridiculous, the harder you can laugh. Wait till you are out of her earshot of course.

4. Accept that nothing you do will change the boss, don't bother trying.

5. Begin to document, through email, EVERY assignment. For example, if she tells you "Prepare the proposal in time for the meeting on Friday." You then send her an email "just to clarify, you asked me to prepare the proposal for the meeting on Friday. Will you need some time to proof it prior to the meeting?"
BC yourself on these emails and keep a copy. Then when she comes in on Wednesday and demands the proposal, tell her you will refer to your 'notes" and then forward her the email with a "I am sorry, I am confused about the change in deadline?"

A. if you love the job (not the boss) stick it out. or B. find a new job, same job, different company. all jobs are going to have flaws. If you think you can do it, talk w/the boss one to one, alone about his/her problems or whatever it is. Maybe they need someone to talk to.
