#1 - it is not the lower, middle uneducated with nothing else to do ppl who are joining...look up the statistics.
#2 - if you really think that the 'idle' rich can't buy their way out of the draft then you're either out of your mind or stupid...the 'idle' rich will never have to do anything they don't want to including serve in a war no matter if there is a draft or not.
it always amazes me how the dem's 'deny, deflect and demonize' others when they don't have any valid arguments...why not try the truth for a change.

for once get your facts straight on who is serving in the military and don't take the word of flip-flop idle rich kerry.

Thanks for answering the question too!! You had me wondering what the answer was. I knew it was the mainly the Democrats that wanted the draft before and the administration that didn't. Wonder how it got confused?

Rangel's problem is not how many are volunteering to serve, it's who is volunteering to serve. Rangel didn't like the fact that most of the volunteers come from lower and middle income American families. He has been talking that since 2004. This is a class issue. Rangels' got himself in a twist because 'rich' people are not fighting the war. If he can reinstate the draft he will make sure that the 'idle rich' also have to fight.

Rangell proposed this once before, while the Replicas still had control. which, by the way, the do until January.

The primary reason he even suggested it, is so that the families of politicians are in the military so that the next time we go to war, it will be more carefully thought out.

If you read the article the reason he want to do it because he believes it would deter political wars such as this one. If the members of congress had to worry about their children being drafted and put into combat they would not have voted for this war. One fact: In 2004 only one congressman had a son in Iraq.

i'm all for reinstating the draft. as it is now, the war is being fought by the few suckers foolish enough to sign up before the current war monger president was elected and the few brave volunteers. if everyone's kids lives were on the line, we might not be so gung ho to go in, and alot more eager to pull out.

its real easy to be pro war when somebody else is doing the fighting.
