yes, beacuse relationships to anything are uniquely individualised, especially those relating to the past.
americans have their past and each one of them will think of it -or not - on their own terms as americans. Nobody else can do this if they are not American; and the same case can be made for every other country or group be it Germany, France, China Iraq, Iran or the BNP and any surviving members of or sympathiers with communism.
Yes there is a uniquely American relationship to the past because there cannot be an America without its unique experience of and relationship with the past.

Apart from the Native Americans,i dont think
the average white American has any real true identidy.If so why do they refer to themselves
as Italian American or Irish American etc ?
i can fully understand why Afro Americans wish to set themselves apart from white America after all the wrong that was done to them in the past,Nuff said Nite

Because americas history is so short its aspirations are based on materialistic things and bad beer. People look for cheap quick thrills instead of the gratification of achievement, sadly this is rubbing off on the rest of the world - junk food, dumb tv, violence before discussion, the old testament.
