It is perfectly okay for a teacher to hug a student if it is comfortable for both the student and the teacher. There are no laws against this, as long as the hug is consensual between the two people.

You have to keep in mind that teachers and students tend to form bonds much like those with a teenager's best friends parents. It's acceptable for them to hug, why would it be any different for a teacher/student as long as its kept to those same standards?

Sadly, there are laws in some places to that effect. They are there because of all that goes on in our world today. I teach elementary school, am not a pervert and hug 23 kids everyday. I have 24 in my class and one isn't a hugger, so I don't hug her. When they tell me I have to stop, I'll tell them to explain it to the children and then I'll look for a new job.

Some schools have a policy regarding this subject. It's not unheard of but in this day and age not many teachers want to take the chance.

a teacher got complained on from a parent for using the words
" nice and sweet " when complimenting a student.
I would never advise to hug, folks take it out of context.

If you are a man do not touch them in any way! You are just barely not considered a suspected child molester. If you hug them you could be railroaded in to jail in spite all the evidence to the contrary.
