Every once and a while, we have word search contests in my class, and the first 5 finished get a prize. I am always pretty slow at these, i figure there must be some method to it. What is the fastest way??

I've always looked for the word backwards. I seem to find it better that way. For instance: If the word is tiger, I'll look for regit.

Look over the list of words first and search for more than one at a time. Scan over the puzzle quickly then go back and search row by row, looking for the starting letters in any direction.

Look over the list of words, when looking at the puzzle look for double letters, letter combinations "st" "wr" things like that. It also helps to kind of work the puzzle in sections, break it down, if you look for 2 or 3 words at a time scan the puzzle looking for the first letters of the words.

Look for a pattern of two letters that is in several of the words. Search the grid for the least common of those two letters. See if the other letter is around it, then look for the words there.
