Thankfully there are a number of people willing to share their knowledge. It will be interesting over time to see how that group (within the group) holds together.
Other organizations (such as Yahoo) have tried similar things in the past, most have disappeared or become mostly chat like groups. The challenge is that, to a large degree, as the success grows, those who sincerely try to answer become a smaller and smaller percent of the total. It seems as if the total reflects the population as a whole with a preponderance toward younger people.
Many of the questions can be easily answered with a small amount of effort seeking answers on the net. Some of use have extensive personal libraries which augments possible answers.
Others (such as myself) have just lived a lot longer than most here and have learned a fair amount (often through mistakes) and pass that experience on to others.
Part of this is available time. Renee (first answerer) join Yahoo/Answers 5 days before I did. While we are both level 7 she is about 100,000 points more than I have (and level 7 Judasrabbi is about 30,000 points beyond Renee and dukalink6000 is about another 15,000 points beyond that). My hat is off to all of them since I don't have that kind of time. I am involved politically in my local community, have a business of my own I'm running, do business consulting for another 6 businesses, am working at starting two new businesses, am involved in a number of local volunteer activities, and am assistant director in a local television program.
A lot of factors enter into answering.

There are some real think tanks on Yahoo Answers. I have a lot on my watch list that are geniuses. I consider myself well informed and somewhat intelligent, but some people on here are insanely bright.

There's a lot of quite intelligent people around here. Some are still coming out of their shells, but in the end everyone has a good time I hope.

looking at the amount of questions you've answered, you're responses to them, the types of questions you've asked and the amount of points you have and the % of your best answers i think that you are one of those smart people on here and i want to thank you
