Hello, I am going to answer all three of your questions with the same answer, I am curious how many if any people will take a stand against modern slavery. Unbelievably Jesse Jackson decline to intervene! What I can not understand if the Afro-Americans here in the States are so anti-slavery why aren't they and you fighting slavery in the modern world? Is it all right to complain about what happened a 140 years ago but you won't take any steps to prevent from happening today?

You say you didn't know about modern slavery? Well, now you do, anyone who has had such a issue with slavery as the Afro-Americans should be studying the issue and organizing bans, boycotts and marches. Lets' start with the number two (2) area that being Chocolate, you should ensure that your family, friends and school boycott Chocolate that means candy, ice cream and hot chocolate, etc. The big companies have the power to make sure the Egyptians and others quit using slaves to gather the Coca Beans.

The number one (1) area is the sex trade, videos, prostitution and children. You cannot do much there but you could ensure the issue becomes publicized.

Number three (3) is Coffee and you should do the same thing as you should do with chocolate.

Number four (4) is drugs and it is even worse with this area (I believe they should be legalized; it worked in the Netherlands and would be a God sent to the Country) is that the profits are used to kill us.

God Bless You and The Southern People.

You know how when your mother asks you to take out the garbage and you say "Just a minute"?

You couldn't do that; you did it NOW or the overseerer's lash made you step lively. Nothing that would raise welts, unless you got really uppity; just enough to remind you to obey. Also you couldn't grow up and move into your own apartment; you worked for the Master until you died - the good ones lightened up on the duties when you got crippled or infirm, but you couldn't look forward to the days when you could do whatever you liked, which is a dream most teens have.

(I'm assuming you are a teen.)

The master could rape your mother or, more commonly, sister when he wanted. Most wills written by slaveholders have a line to the effect of "I give my ***** boy Moses to my son, William, and ask that he be treated with special kindness"; "special kindness" is a code for "He's you half-brother, stupid. Don't sell him down the river."

I read a will in which the slave family was divided up by value. Males 16 - 35 had the most value, so one heir got the dad. Another got the mom and one daughter. A third got three girls aged 10, 8 and 4. If they all stayed in the same county, they would see each other at church, maybe. If heir #3 moved west, the 10-year old would be the only mother the 4-year old had. The might not see their parents ever again.

On the bright side, they lived longer than they would have in Africa, on average, and had a more peaceful life. There wasn't much tribal warfare in the South. Defenders of slavery will tell you that. By that standard, if the Europeans (and the Canadians, Russians, Australians, Americans . . .) had just let Hitler and the Japanese conquer the world, a lot fewer people would have died in World War II.

Slavery means you own a person. You can work them to death and nothing will be said. You can whip them, you can starve them, you can take away their dignity and even rape them.

Slavery means you are RESPONSIBLE for a person. You must feed them, clothe them, and give them a place to sleep. To get the best work out of them, they must be taken care of and allowed enough dignity that they will work. When they are sick, old or crippled, they still belong to you and you must either sell them or take care of them.

Yeah, the second paragraph is rarely seen. The truth is most slaves were treated better than horses and they were too valuable to waste. Yes, some did get whipped (lowered their value) and chained. Yes, families did get broken up, but not often. When it happened, it was usually a sink or swim financial decision on the plantation. The plantation needed the money and the thing they could raise the most money with was selling a few slaves. Because such action always caused morale problems in the slave quarters, they weren't taken often. Yes, white men did mess with slave women. Breeding more children meant more money and they saw nothing wrong with it.

The truth is slaves were essential to the large plantations and plantation owners, even if they didn't care for an individual slave, DID care about the majority. They were assets.

By the way, slavery is still present in some countries. The majority of countries have outlawed it, but not all.

slavery was never good no matter the year. it is a good thing it isnt allowed anymore.. how would you feel not being in charge of anything you do. wouldnt be to much fun in my eyes.. but you can look in any history book and find out about slavery and if not there seach the web. i just know its not a good thing being beaten and raped and things like that just because someone owns you.. but that is just my opinion oh yeah and people now a days cant really tell you what it was like due to it not taking place anymore though they can say what they feel it would be like

Slavery is like looking in the mirror and not seeing anything.

Being a salve means that you have no rights and no choice. There are still slave traders around today, it's naive to think otherwise. Pirates still exists too in some waters.

it is like working at McDonalds 18 hours per day and getting no pay except a meal or two and a hard cot in your cell with chains on your legs. If you complain they beat you or cut off your d#@k. you also get raped regularly for good measure.

Imagine not being allowed to have an opinion, to sit where you want, to drink from a fountain if you're thirsty, to go and do whatever you please, whenver you please, and being at someone's beckon call twenty-four hours a day. That pretty much sums it up, except for the loss of diginity, pride and freedom.

A zen master sits in a field.

His student says, "Master, what is the worst fate?"

The master replies, "For your heart to be chained down. For your mind never to blow with the frozen mountain winds or bloom with the lotus blossoms. To never know Enlightenment."

The student meditates upon it.
