Because that IS "the job" of missionaries and, being missionaries, I am sure that they themselves truly believed that Christianity was the only one, true religion. Unfortunately, I happen to think that there is much "truth" in some of the American Indians' spiritual beliefs and I personally wish we would give more credence to those beliefs. I, for one, am not at all convinced that those Indians may have had the "truer" religion, for they seem to make a whole lot of sense to me, even though I have no connection with Native American Indians.

The Indians were not forced into it. Geranamo wanted the Indians to adopt the ways of the whiteman while still repecting their roots as Native Americans. Although some Indians did reject white ways and Christanity with just cause!!

They saw them as heathens. They were so wrapped up in their own holiness that the only image they could tolerate seeing was their own. Because of their narrow sighted views they would not let themselves see how truly spiritual the aboriginal people truly were & are. Their spiritual beliefs were not written because they used no written language. These spiritual beliefs were handed down through more generations they christianity had know. I am sure God got it but not the the Europeon settlers. Tragic. Still to day that narrow view holds people back & leads to discrimination of many cultures on earth.

Because in the bible, Christians are encouraged to share the word of God and allow people to be saved in the blood of Christ. It's the same reason that you have Jeohovah Witnesses knocking on your door and young Mormon Men going from house to house. They all believe they are doing the work of the Lord, and in the old west, native American's were viewed as heathens. Funny...we took all their land and slaughtered them by the hundreds. Who were the heathens?
