Basically what is going on with the family? Like whats wrong with Eric? is he sick? or did he cheat on Annie? Someone please fill me in on everything because I dont understand a thing since I just now started watching it. And why doesnt Ruthie live with the family?

Ruthie is away at school..Eric has something wrong with his heart and is expected to die within an year or less. No cheating going on.. The Camden's are going to ruthie's school to talk to her and nobody will tell her why. So Ruthie's friend said that his parents came to talk to them when they were getting a divorce. Now Ruthie thinks that is why they are coming.

Ruthie is in Scotland in school for a student exchange program. Eric is sick: something is wrong with his heart. Thats basically it.
