The other night my Accord, while going up a hill, started shifting, continuously and my son said that even though his foot was down to the floor, no gas seemed to be getting to the engine, when it stalled, he popped the hood and the engine was so hot that the rain sizzled on it..there was no coolant left in it and yet the inside sensor said it was ok..what could be the problem?? what are some suggestions, besides pushing it off a cliff (I have thought of that) could this be expensive? thanks for any replies.

I own an 89 Accord and recently I discovered the radiator had filled full of sediment and needed to be cleaned. If your Accord overheated, radiator (cooling) repairs may be all you need. And in your case it does sound like a leak (although the good news is I've heard a new radiator isn't that costly).

However, I can't see how this would explain the problem with the clutch that you describe.

I'd recommend you take it to a mechanic you trust (and if you don't have one, ask around for recommendations...especially from people who drive older Japanese cars). An estimate for "must have" and "elective" repairs should help you decide what to do with the car.

Good luck from someone who knows.

nicely seems such as you have a susceptible waterpump, there is likewise the possibility which you have some calcium construct-up on your block and heads...in case you or a prior proprietor crammed the radiator with faucet water, over the years the lime/calcium can construct up and choke off water flow surprisingly interior the heads ,there are radiator flushes which will sparkling the calcium construct up interior the radiator and the engine, if it is so. now there is two issues to seek for...! water interior the oil...2 oil interior the water...the two one capacity a blown head gasket or a cracked head with the perfect least in all probability, A broken water jacket interior the block. the 1st ingredient i'd do is pull out the thermostat and replace the housing with out it,( collectively as you have the housing off examine for calcium construct up in it and the consumption it bolts to, merely to get a clue as to what the challenge is) , after doing this initiate the vehicle with the cap off the radiator and watch the flow of water at idle you ought to be waiting to be sure the water flowing at a reliable %.... no be counted if it particularly is now not and there is now not quite some construct-up seen , slap a sparkling pump on it. additionally being as how that's right now stressed (rigged) attempt using it with out the thermostat in it and notice the way it acts... there have been countless automobiles that I even have had that ran at well-known working temps with out the thermostat ( be warned tho that too low of temps are very undesirable on your engine too so no be counted if it particularly is now not in well-known working perametors, attempt lower back! reliable success

You ran it completely out of water, and probably ruined the engine. Of course the sensor said it was okay, there was nothing to measure. At one point it obviously told you it was hot, but somehow you missed that. Chances are you now have warped heads and will need to replace the engine.

your sensor is bad and you have a leak in the radiator or in your hoses check the heater hoses and the hoses coming from the radiator to the block. If you can't find a leak in the hoses the try to put so stop leak in the radiator
it should fix it. also check your freeze plugs on you block.

fill the anti-freeze and have the thermostat checked if you have a leak in the cooling system it will need to be fixed. Hopefully you didn't crack the head when if got hot if this happened than you will be looking at very costly repairs

if its overheating, then check the thermostat.when its hot then you are going to loose power, because the valves get hot.also check the side of the radiator next to the fan,do you have cold spots if so then it is clogged up.
