I can deal with bugs. However, I cannot deal with slugs. They are so slimy and leave a silver trail behind them. This summer, I found two twirled around each other that had climbed up the storm door. It was so gross! I poured salt on them. They dissolved somewhat but left a lot of icky gooey gunk behind. I kept throwing water on the storm door to get rid of the mess. Some of it might still be there. Gross!
I think slugs are far worse than bugs.

Im going to go ahead and agree with the fact that you most likely did kill a gross looking bug on your desk.

you shouldn't have hurt it.
I always identify them and then set them free outside instead.
Sometimes I set up a light outside, get a few beers and an insect book and wait to see what lands.
