The Cincinnati Reds, with a new GM and manager, led the NL central for much of the year, and then led the wild card for quite a while before fading at the end... they can't spend much dough to pick up superstar free agents, and their market isn't sexy and attractive to most players, so what shot do they have to win against bigger market teams?

This team lives or dies with Griffey.

If Chicago-hating Georgie Porgie has picked the Cubs, the Reds can only shoot for the Wild Card, it's all over in the Central.
Actually, in answer to your question, the Reds need a bullpen. How many games did Arroyo leave with a lead only to get a no decision?

The Reds played above average most of the season. They need a solid pitcher in the rotation, someone that can anchor it.
They wont be able to go after an ace though. They managed to win with mirrors last season, they wont be able to do it again i'm sorry to say.

Cincinnati showed signs of being an offensive juggernaut last year. The offense wasn't a problem, it was starting and relief pitching. They made that horrible trade giving up Kearns and Lopez for two guys who would't be able to win a carnival pitching game.

Bottom line..............no pitching...........no playoffs!!!!!!!

I don't think they will be able to do it next year. Griffey is getting older and is injury prone, and they just don't have the pitching over the long term.
