I need to tell my parents some reasons going to the American University in Rome is a good idea instead of staying in the US and going to school here. I want to study Italian and languages, but I need more reasons. help?

What are your professional goals? Do you want to teach Italian? Join the foreign service? Those are excellent reasons, however studying abroad will also expose you to other cultures, other languages, and will allow you to know who you are, develop your strengths and see things from a completely different perspective. It will open your mind to new possibilities. Even if you don't end up majoring in Italian and languages, I think you should definitely go for it. Besides, since it's an American university (accredited, I hope), you can always transfer back to the US after a couple of years.

One thing I had last year when I backpacked through Europe that I really appreciated (as annoying as it was to wear) was a money belt that I wore under my shirt. I never had to worry about pickpockets or losing my passport or other valuable documents. I would highly suggest investing in this. Rome is going to be pretty hot in the summer so bring some clothes to accommodate that. And, as one of the other guys mentioned, an umbrella for London would probably be a good idea. I'm not sure what kind of a budget you are on but look into frequent metro uses in London and Paris. If you are going to be using the metro/underground in these cities this will save you a good chunk of change. Enjoy your trip. Europe is amazing!

Sounds like you would rather travel then go to college. I'm sure you would be better off staying in the US for college. America is a much better place to be for college. Not to mention cheaper.
